Further to Building Note no 70, dated August 2008, we advise that Stage 2 of 5 Star Plus will not proceed. Stage 1 of 5 Star Plus, included in the BCA 2008 Volume 2 as a WA addition, remains in force.

Perth Arena
The September 2008 areial photograph of the Perth Arena site has been added to the images page of the Perth Arena web site. Perth Arena is Perth's new, state-of-the-art multi-purpose indoor entertainment and sports venue, located on the Northbridge Link site (formerly the Entertainment Centre car park) on Wellington Street in Perth's CBD.

Building Notes 69 and 70
BN69 Use of Untreated Softwoods in Areas Where European House Borer Has Been Found (74kB).
Further to our previous Building Note No 47 on this subject matter, dated 21 February 2007, the presence of the European House Borer (EHB) Pupa has now been confirmed in a fallen tree in the suburb of Jandabup (City of Wanneroo).

The purpose of this Building Note is to clarify the timetable for application of the 5 Star Plus standards implemented on the 1 September 2007. The 5 Star Plus standards provide Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) provisions for greater energy and water efficiency in new housing.

Builders' Prequalification Scheme for Works Contracts
The Department of Housing and Works (DHW), on behalf of the Minister for Works (the Minister), administers a system of prequalification for building contractors in the building and construction industry known as the Builders Pre-qualification Scheme for Works Contracts (BPS). A new Builders' Information Pack dated 4 September 2008 is now available on theDHW intrnet site.

Ancillary Works Policy
GROH owned housing is equipped to normal residential market standards. Provision of extra fittings or modifications for specific client agency requirements can be arranged by GROH, but the full cost must be borne by the agency concerned. This document is written with the aim of setting policy for the provision of ancillary works to GROH owned properties so that both GROH and client agency staff can be aware of, and understand, the respective responsibilities of GROH and the client agencies.(PDF 74 kB) July 2007.
